What is a lime calcination plant? A lime processing plant uses rotary kilns or vertical kilns to manufacture active lime (quick lime) for various applications in the required size and fineness. The quick lime is produced through the calcination process, which means calcining limestones (calcium carbonate). The finished products are widely used in steel, ferroalloy, construction, environmental, agriculture, chemical, and food industries.
Contact SINOMA Zibo to get your customized lime calcination plant! You can get a team of experienced technicians to help you achieve your business goals. Tailored solutions are made based on a thorough understanding of the calcination principle and the performance of calcination kilns. The configuration aims at improving production capacity while consumption reduction. Special attention is paid to the quicklime activity. Every effort is made toward avoiding inadequate burning or over-burning.

lime calcination plant process
The lime calcination plant process mainly contains raw material preparation, limestone calcination, cooling, crushing and screening, storage and transportation, and quality testing throughout the entire process. We pay attention to the factors that influence the calcination effect such as the limestone calcination temperature, the granularity of limestone, fuel particle size and ratio, air supply, and kiln loading. For environmental protection, a bag filter is equipped to treat the exhaust gas. Hot air at 600℃ after heat exchange enters the calcination kiln to mix and combustion with the coal gas.

- Raw material preparation: Limestone extracted from mines is transported to the production site and crushed, then selected qualified limestones are stored in silos.
- Preheating: Screened limestones are conveyed to the preheater top bunker through a bucket elevator. The material quantity is controlled by two charge level indicators and distributed evenly to the chambers of preheaters. At this stage, about 30% of the limestone is heated to about 900℃ and decomposed by the kiln flue gas at about 1150℃.
- Calcining: The limestone is pushed into the rotary kiln by a hydraulic push rod, where it is sintered and decomposed into CaO and carbon dioxide. The calcination temperature is about 900℃-1100℃. The chemical reaction: CaCO3(Limestone)→CaO (quicklime)+CO2(carbon dioxide)
- Cooling: Calcined limestone with high temperatures is sent to the coolers for cooling. It is cooled to a temperature within the safety range for easy storage and transportation.
- Crushing and screening: It is carried out depending on the requirements of finished products and the client’s demands.
- Storage: After cooling (or screening), the quick lime is transported to the storage silos by vibrating feeder, chain bucket conveyor, bucket elevator, and belt conveyor.
Rotary kilns for lime calcination
The rotary kiln is the key equipment in a limestone processing plant. Unlike vertical shaft kilns, a rotary kiln is especially good at processing super fine particles. If you are dealing with limestones from tailings, it is a must-have. It also has the advantage of large productivity with a single unit. There is no need to buy a double calcination kiln. The rotary kiln also features high product quality in important technical indicators such as the activity of calcium oxide. The quicklime activity can reach up to 400ml. Countercurrent calcination in the rotary kiln can improve the heat utilization efficiency, control the temperature more precisely to reduce inadequate or over-burning and produce more uniform active lime with higher quality due to the uniformly heating by a suitable temperature range.

Advantages
Sinoma Zibo has designed a lime production line using a rotary kiln of two-stage support with a large span and low aspect ratio. It greatly reduces the difficulty in adjusting the straightness and load of the kiln body.
A multi-point cooler is adopted for dividing the cooer into several cooling chambers, which can ensure uniform and reliable product quality.
The pulverized coal burner has four channels which brings high combustion efficiency.
Maximum use of heat consumption by using hot air generated in the cooling process to aid the combustion in the rotary kiln.
