smooth liner is used in the fine grinding chamber. The height of the grinding media depends on the static friction coefficient with the liner. The friction coefficient is 0.35 in wet grinding and 0.4 in dry grinding.
Wedge-bar liner is suitable for the first chamber (coarse grinding). It can lift the grinding media to a higher position and produce a higher impact force.
The ribbed liner is similar to the wedge-bar liner. It is a semicircular or trapezoidal rib cast on a flat liner.
Single wave type shell liner is suitable for rod mills.
A double wave type liner with small crests and pitches is suitable for fine grinding chambers.
Studded liners can improve the hoop wear on the liner, and reduce the consumption of the liner and grinding balls.
Step-type shell liner (single step & double step) has the advantages of uniform and consistent lifting height for the same ball layer, and uniform plate surface wear.

Ball mill liners can be made from many kinds of materials, such as manganese steel, cast iron, alloy steel, rubber, etc. No matter which type of material is used, the requirements are good impact resistance and wear resistance.
1. manganese steel ball mill liner
The material for the manganese steel lining plate is mainly high manganese steel, which has a certain impact on toughness ( the hardness ranges from HRC20 to HRC25 ). When subjected to a certain impact, the surface of the liner plate can produce cold work hardening to enhance its hardness, so that its hardness can reach HRC40 or more. It is generally suitable for working conditions with small impact force (small and medium-sized concentrating mills). The average service life is 5000-6000h.
2. cast iron ball mill liner
The material for this kind of mill liner is mainly high chromium alloy cast iron, which has strong hardness and toughness, and good wear resistance. It is 6 to 8 times higher than the high wear resistance of manganese steel liners. However, because it is a brittle material, it is mostly suitable for processing ore with soft hardness and less impact in applications.
